Following the announcement of the winners of the third World Sports Photography Awards, a new competition has opened for amateur photographers. It’s an opportunity for any photographers who are passionate about photographing sport, but who don’t earn a living from it, to showcase their best images.

Photographers can enter up to 3 images from any sporting category provided that that have been taken between 15th August 2021 and 15th August 2022. Anyone who does not currently earn a regular income (below 10% of their earnings) from sports photography is eligible to enter the amateur awards.

Speaking about the Amateur chapter, World Sports Photography Awards Co-Founder Simon Burton said, ‘Sports photography is about emotion, and the story behind the image. That’s true whether it’s a world-famous athlete in a stadium or kids at a school sports day. We look forward to seeing the entries in this category which tell inspiring stories of endeavour, determination, disappointment, and celebration.’

Dustin Satloff won Gold in the World Sports Photography Awards for his image of Wilson Catoe, Cade Barnard and Jakobi Buchanon in the Army Black Knights in locker room before game against Navy Midshipmen at MetLife Stadium December 11, 2021.

The first, second and third-placed winners of the Amateur World Sports Photography Awards will get to spend the day with a professional sports photographer shooting a sporting event*. It will be a fantastic opportunity to learn more about photographing sport and what it takes to make it as a professional sports photographer. They will also be able to try their dream kit, provided by sponsor MPB.

In addition, the winners will receive credit to spend at MPB. The first placed winner will receive £1000 credit while the photographers who come second and third will each receive £500 and £250 respectively.
