Nikon Z9 firmware update enables more precise shutter speed adjustments

Nikon has announced a new firmware update for its flagship full-frame mirrorless camera, the Z9, which adds new High-Frequency Flicker Reduction functionality.

Nikon’s new High-Frequency Flicker Reduction allows users to fine-tune the shutter speed in smaller increments. Whereas users previously could adjust the shutter speed by 1/3 or 1/2 EV, the new High-Frequency Flicker Reduction, when enabled, lets you make shutter speed adjustments as small as 1/96 EV.

A benefit of more precise shutter speed adjustments is better control over the effects of flicker, which can result when photographing scenes that contain high frequency LED lighting.

Nikon Z9 firmware version 2.10 also promises to improve the camera’s AF tracking performance with small subjects, and Nikon says focus accuracy has been refined for when using Eye- or Face-Detection AF in AF-C mode.

The Nikon Z9 firmware update is available now to download from Nikon’s website.
